This was supposed to be an entry for Ludum Dare 56. The theme was 'Tiny Creatures'.

However, for some reason I wasn't able to post anything to the event, so I ended up dropping out.

I did have the idea of wanting to explore the 'boids' extension in GDevelop, and I saw this as an opportunity to try that out, so I decided to eventually finish the game. In hindsight it turned out, that GDevelop was not a good fit for this kind of game due to it's greatly limited array functionality. The boids -extension worked fine, but lining up the rats and handling of the line after that turned out to be quite a huge pain. If I was to do it over, I'd probably choose a different engine. Eventually I was able to kind of pull it off with smoke and mirrors and a clever use of variables, but not as reliably and flexibly as I'd wanted.

I had ideas to add hazards, more city to explore, types of animals to avoid luring etc. It remains to be seen if I'll implement those, or just keep this as a proof-of-concept.

I am somewhat happy with how luring and lining up the rats worked out. That was the main thing I wanted to achieve.

HOW TO PLAY:

WSAD / Arrow Keys - move

X / M - play flute

Objective: Clean the city by luring the rats out by playing your flute!

Try luring them out to line them up one by one, as they're less susceptible to the charm of your music in greater numbers.
